BMI Calculator — Metric (cm, kg)

BMI in centimetres and kilograms, with your category and healthy weight range.

Quick answer: With metric inputs, BMI = kilograms ÷ metres squared. For 1.70 m and 65 kg: 65 ÷ (1.70 × 1.70) = 22.5, which is in the normal weight band. Entering height in centimetres is the only difference from the imperial version.

BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis. It does not distinguish muscle from fat, and athletes with high muscle mass can read as overweight. Children and teenagers are assessed against age- and sex-specific percentile charts, not these adult bands. Talk to a healthcare professional about your own health.

What is BMI Calculator (Metric)?

This is the metric version of the BMI calculator: enter your height in centimetres and your weight in kilograms. The maths is unchanged — height is divided by 100 to turn centimetres into metres, then squared and used as the divisor. Metric countries use this form by default, and it is the version most clinical guidelines are written around. The result includes your category and the weight range that would put you inside the healthy 18.5–24.9 band.

Common Uses for BMI Calculator (Metric)

  • Check BMI quickly using centimetres and kilograms
  • Convert a target weight range into metric figures
  • Track BMI over time when your scale is set to kilograms
  • Compare your BMI against the WHO metric bands

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert cm to m for the formula?
Divide by 100: 175 cm is 1.75 m. Square that (3.0625) and divide your weight in kilograms by it. The calculator does this automatically.
Is the metric BMI different from imperial?
No. Both describe the same physical ratio; only the units of the inputs differ. A person's BMI is identical whether you start with centimetres or inches.
What is a healthy weight in kg for 170 cm?
At 1.70 m the healthy range is roughly 53.5–72.0 kg. The calculator shows the exact figure for your own height.
