What is VO2 Max Calculator?
VO2 max is the maximum rate at which your body can take up and use oxygen during exercise, expressed in millilitres of oxygen per kilogram of body weight per minute. It is the best single measure of aerobic fitness and a strong predictor of cardiovascular health. Laboratory measurement needs a mask and a metabolic cart, but two practical estimates are widely used: one from the ratio of maximum to resting heart rate, and the Cooper test, which uses the distance covered in twelve minutes of running. Both are less precise than lab testing — expect a few points of error — but they are excellent for tracking change over time, which is what matters for training.
Common Uses for VO2 Max Calculator
- Estimate aerobic fitness without a lab test
- Track changes across an endurance training block
- Compare methods and get a fitness rating
- Set heart-rate training zones from the result
